Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – December 30, 2024

Hey there, anglers! Captain Joe here, back with your daily dose of Lake Okeechobee fishing intel. Let’s dive into what’s happening on the Big O today.

Lake Okeechobee Water Level and Weather

As of this morning, December 30, 2024, Lake Okeechobee’s water level is sitting at 15.15 feet NGVD. That’s a tad lower than this time last year (16.00 feet) and even further down from two years ago (16.35 feet). We’ve had a bit of rain lately, and the forecast for today calls for light rain with a high of 76 degrees Fahrenheit (24 degrees Celsius). The wind will be blowin’ a bit from the southeast at around 5 miles per hour (8 kilometers per hour).

How Will This Impact Fishing?

With the water level down and some rain in the air, the bass fishing should be pretty darn good. Look for bass to be movin’ into shallower water, especially around the edges of grass beds and near any flowing water. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and swim jigs should all be productive choices.

The crappie and specks (that’s what we call black crappie ’round these parts) are probably hangin’ out in deeper water right now. Try using live minnows or small jigs around brush piles and submerged structure.

Stay Safe and Tight Lines!

Remember, safety always comes first out on the water. Wear your life jacket, be mindful of the weather, and let someone know your float plan. And most importantly, have fun and enjoy the beauty of Lake Okeechobee!
