Howdy, folks! Captain Joe here, back with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report for December 31, 2024. The Big O is always full of surprises, and today's no different. Let's see how the lake level, weather, and current season are shaping up the fishing.
Lake Okeechobee Water Level
As of this morning, Lake Okeechobee's water level is sitting at 15.15 feet NGVD. That's a tad higher than this time last year (15.99 feet) and a bit lower than two years ago (16.36 feet). This moderate water level means plenty of healthy vegetation and good water clarity in most areas.
Weather Forecast and Impact on Fishing
Today's forecast calls for scattered clouds with a high of 77°F (25°C) and a gentle breeze around 8 mph (3.6 m/s). These comfortable temperatures and light winds should make for a pleasant day on the water. 
With these conditions, expect the bass to be active in the early morning and late afternoon, seeking shade and cooler water near vegetation and drop-offs.  The crappie (speckled perch) should be congregating around brush piles and deeper holes, so slow-trolling minnows or jigs will be your best bet. 
Fishing Tips for Today

Bass Fishing: Focus on areas with thick vegetation like hydrilla and eelgrass. Topwater frogs, swim jigs, and flipping creature baits should entice some bites.
Crappie Fishing: Look for deeper water near brush piles or submerged trees. Use live minnows or small jigs in bright colors.
