Lake Okeechobee Water Level Update - November 11, 2024
Ahoy there, anglers! Captain Joe here, back with your weekly Lake Okeechobee fishing report. Let's dive into the numbers and see what's what on the Big O!
Lake O's Water Level: A Tad Higher Than Last Year
As of today, November 11, 2024, Lake Okeechobee's water level is sitting pretty at 16.15 feet above sea level. Now, for you landlubbers who might not be familiar with these waters, that's a smidge higher than this time last year when the lake was at 16.00 feet.  Two years ago, it was almost the same at 16.14 feet.  So, we're looking at a pretty average water level for this time of year.
What This Means for Your Fishing Trip
Now, you might be wondering, "Captain Joe, what does this mean for my fishing trip?" Well, hold your horses, I'm getting to that!
* **Bass Fishing:** With the water level slightly up, those big ol' bass are gonna be hanging out in the shallows, especially in the grassy areas.  Get yourself a topwater frog or a swim jig, and you'll be reeling 'em in no time.

* **Crappie Fishing:**  Crappie love structure, and with the higher water level, they'll be congregating around submerged brush piles and trees.  Grab your trusty jigs and minnows, and get ready for some tasty fillets.

* **Speckled Perch (Specks):**  These fellas are also fans of structure, so target those same areas as the crappie.  Live minnows or small jigs will be your best bet.
Weather Forecast: Sunshine and a Chance of Showers
Now, let's talk about the weather.  We're expecting a mix of sun and clouds this week, with a chance of showers here and there.  Temperatures will be pleasant, ranging from the low 70s to the low 80s.  Just remember to pack your rain gear, just in case Mother Nature decides to surprise us.
