Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – June 14, 2025 – Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily dose of what’s happening on Lake Okeechobee. Been fishin’ these waters for longer than I care to admit, and I’m here to give you the straight scoop.

Lake Level and Water Conditions

The latest U.S. Army Corps of Engineers data shows the lake level at 11.19 feet NGVD. That’s down a bit from last year (13.30 feet) and two years ago (14.09 feet). We’re also sitting almost 2 feet below the historical average for this time of year. Keep an eye on those navigation depths, especially if you’re running a bigger boat. Route 1 is sittin’ at about 5.13 feet and Route 2 is around 3.33 feet.

+ Flow Due to lockages is computed utilizing average daily headwater and
tailwater along with total number of lockages for the day to calculate
a volume which is then converted to an average discharge in cfs.
++ Preferred flow is determined from either the spillway discharge or the below flow meter daily

   * On 11 May 1999, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched from
Instantaneous 2400 value to an average-daily lake average.
On 14 Mar 2001, due to the isolation of various gages within the standard
10 stations, the average of the interior 4 station gages was used
     as the Lake Okeechobee Elevation.
On 05 November 2010, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 9 gage
mix of interior and edge gages to obtain a more reliable representation
     of the lake level.
On 09 May 2011, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 8 gage
mix of interior and edge gages to obtain a more reliable representation
of the lake level due to isolation of S135 from low lake levels.
Today Lake Okechobee elevation is determined from the 4 Int & 4 Edge stations

Weather Impact on Fishing

Looks like we’re in for some typical Florida weather. The forecast calls for overcast skies and winds around 12 mph with gusts up to 23 mph. The temperature will be around 86 degrees during the day, cooling down to about 81 at night.

Bass Fishing

With the overcast conditions, bass will likely be more active throughout the day. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation and structure. Topwater lures early in the morning and late in the afternoon could be productive. As the day warms up, switch to flipping jigs or using soft plastics around heavy cover. The wind could make boat control a challenge, so be prepared to adjust your tactics.

Crappie Fishing

Crappie fishing can be good under overcast skies. Look for them around bridge pilings, submerged trees, and deeper channels. Minnows and jigs are always a good bet. The wind might make it harder to present your bait precisely, so consider using a heavier jig head or a slip bobber to help keep your line tight.

Bluegill Fishing

Bluegill will be bedding in the shallows this time of year. With the warmer temperatures, they’ll be active. Crickets and worms are your best bet. Look for them in areas with lily pads and other vegetation. The wind might make it a bit choppy, but the bluegill should still be biting.

Catfish Fishing

Catfishin’ is always a good option, no matter the weather. Use live or cut bait around deeper holes and channels. The wind might help disperse the scent of your bait, attracting catfish from a wider area.

General Tips for Lake Okeechobee Fishing

  • Stay Hydrated: It’s hot out there, folks. Drink plenty of water.
  • Sun Protection: Don’t forget your sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses.
  • Check Your Gear: Make sure your lines are in good shape and your hooks are sharp.
  • Be Mindful of Regulations: Stay up-to-date on the latest fishing regulations.

That’s all for today’s report. Remember to check back on Monday for a more in-depth look at the week ahead. Tight lines and happy fishin’!
