Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – June 12, 2025 – Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily dose of what’s happening on and around our beloved Lake Okeechobee. Let’s dive right into it, shall we?

Lake Okeechobee Water Level

As of today, June 12, 2025, Lake Okeechobee’s water level sits at 11.16 feet. That’s down from last year’s 12.92 feet and significantly lower than two years ago at 14.04 feet. We’re also sitting about 2.02 feet below the historical average for this time of year.

Weather Impact on Fishing

The weather forecast for today is calling for light rain with about 0.72 inches expected. The wind will be blowing from the southeast (104 degrees) at around 13 mph, with gusts up to 22 mph. Temperatures will range from a low of 77°F to a high of 88°F.

Bass Fishing

With the lake level lower than usual, bass are likely to be concentrated in areas with remaining vegetation and near any submerged structure. The light rain and wind could make for a decent topwater bite early in the morning. Focus on areas with Kissimmee grass and lily pads. The wind could make boat control challenging, so be prepared to adjust your tactics.

  • Key Areas: Kissimmee grass, lily pads, submerged structure
  • Lures to Try: Topwater frogs, spinnerbaits, Texas-rigged worms

Crappie Fishing

Crappie fishing might be a bit tougher with the wind. Look for them around deeper structures like bridge pilings and submerged trees. Minnows and jigs are your best bet. The rain might encourage them to move a bit shallower, so don’t be afraid to experiment.

  • Key Areas: Bridge pilings, submerged trees, deeper channels
  • Bait/Lures to Try: Minnows, jigs

Catfish Fishing

Catfish should be biting well, especially with the rain. They’ll be scavenging for food washed into the lake. Use stink baits, cut bait, or live bait near the bottom. Focus on areas near creek mouths and canals.

  • Key Areas: Creek mouths, canals, bottom structure
  • Bait to Try: Stink bait, cut bait, live bait

Inflows and Outflows

Total Inflows: 436 cfs

Total Outflows: -149 cfs

Final Thoughts

Overall, the fishing conditions on Lake Okeechobee are shaping up to be fair. The lower water level continues to concentrate the fish, but the weather could play a significant role in how successful you are. Be sure to check the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District website for the latest lake data. Stay safe out there, and tight lines!

Until next time,
Captain Joe
