Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report for April 10, 2025
Howdy folks, Captain Joe here with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report for April 10, 2025. The lake level is currently at 12.27 feet NGVD, a good bit lower than last year’s 14.99 feet and the 14.28 feet from two years ago. She’s also sitting below the historical average for this time of year (14.12 feet). This lower water level is definitely something to keep in mind as we head into the heart of spring fishing.
Weather Impact on Fishing
The weather forecast for later today calls for light rain and a temperature around 72°F (22°C). Winds are expected to be light out of the northeast at around 5 mph (8 kph). This overcast, slightly breezy weather should make for a comfortable day on the water and could get the bass biting. The recent rain we’ve had (1.49 inches at S77) might also stir things up a bit and get the fish moving.
Fishing Forecast by Species
Largemouth Bass
With the lower water levels, the bass will likely be concentrated in the remaining vegetation and around deeper holes. Flipping and pitching creature baits or Texas-rigged worms in the thicker cover should be productive. Spinnerbaits and swim jigs could also entice strikes along the edges of the grass lines. Look for areas where the cleaner water is flowing in, as this can attract baitfish and, in turn, bass.
Crappie
Crappie fishing can be excellent in the spring. With the lower water, focus on deeper areas around submerged structure like brush piles and creek channels. Small jigs, minnows, and live crickets are all good bait choices. Using a slow trolling technique or vertical jigging can be effective.
Bluegill and Shellcracker
Bluegill and shellcracker will be starting to bed in the shallows as the water warms. Look for sandy areas near vegetation. Worms, crickets, and small beetle spins are all proven baits for these panfish. A light and sensitive rod will help you detect their subtle bites.
Catfish
Catfish are always a good option on Lake Okeechobee. They can be found in a variety of habitats, from shallow flats to deeper channels. Use cut bait, chicken livers, or stink bait on the bottom. Night fishing can be especially productive for catfish.
Overall Outlook
While the lower water level presents some challenges, there are still plenty of opportunities to catch fish on Lake Okeechobee right now. Key in on the areas where fish are likely to concentrate, and adjust your techniques accordingly. Remember to check the latest regulations and be safe out there. Tight lines, y’all!
