Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – April 11, 2025
Howdy folks, Captain Joe here with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report for today, April 11, 2025. The lake’s been actin’ a bit different lately, so let’s dive into what’s happening and how it’s affectin’ our fishin’.
Lake Okeechobee Water Level
The Army Corps of Engineers has Lake Okeechobee at 12.21 feet above sea level. That’s down a bit from 12.27 feet yesterday and considerably lower than this time last year (14.98 feet) and two years ago (14.24 feet). This lower water level is concentratin’ the fish in certain areas, which can be good and bad. We’ll talk more about that in a minute.
Weather and Fishing Forecast
The weather today is lookin’ partly cloudy with scattered clouds. This type of weather can be excellent for fishin’, as the slight cloud cover can make the fish more active. The wind is expected to be light, which is always a plus for us anglers.
Bass Fishing
With the lower water level, bass are movin’ into the remaining vegetation and deeper holes. Focus your efforts around the edges of the grass lines and near drop-offs. Flipping and pitching creature baits or using slow-sinkin’ worms can be effective. Early mornin’ and late evenin’ will likely be the best times to target these big ol’ bass.
Crappie Fishing
Crappie are schoolin’ up tight right now, so findin’ ’em is key. Look for them near submerged structure like brush piles and fallen trees. Minnows and small jigs are your best bet for enticing these tasty fish. Remember to use light line and a sensitive rod to feel those subtle bites.
Bluegill Fishing
Bluegill are always a fun fish to catch, and they’re bitin’ pretty good right now. You can find them in shallower areas near the shoreline, especially around vegetation. Crickets, worms, and small beetle spins are all great choices for bluegill. They’re a blast for anglers of all ages.
That’s the Lake Okeechobee fishing report for today. Remember to check back on Monday for my full weekly report, where I’ll go into more detail about what’s been catchin’ and where. Until then, tight lines and good fishin’!
