Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report - March 20, 2025

Howdy, folks! Captain Joe here, back with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report. Today's report is all about how this recent weather and those fluctuating water levels are impacting our fishing. Let's dive in!

Lake Okeechobee Water Levels

First things first, Lake Okeechobee is sitting at 13.01 feet above sea level today. That's a good bit lower than last year when she was at 15.64 feet this time. Two years ago, she was at 14.89 feet. These lower water levels concentrate the fish and can make for some exciting fishing if you know where to look.

Weather Forecast and Impact on Fishing

Now, let's talk about this weather. We're expecting some scattered clouds today with a high around 79 degrees Fahrenheit (that's about 26 degrees Celsius for you youngsters). The wind will be blowin' out of the southwest at a gentle 5-10 miles per hour.

For you bass fishermen, this kind of weather can make for a fantastic topwater bite. Look for bass to be chasin' baitfish in the early morning and late evening hours. Spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and topwater plugs will be your best bet.

Crappie and specks are bitin' good too. With the water levels down, they'll be hangin' out around any structure they can find - brush piles, submerged trees, and the like. Jigs, minnows, and small spinners will all tempt those tasty panfish.

Captain Joe's Tips

  • Focus on areas where the wind is blowin' into the shore. Baitfish will congregate there, and the bigger fish won't be far behind.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different colors and retrieves until you find what the fish are wantin'.
  • Most importantly, relax and enjoy the beauty of Lake Okeechobee. Even if the fish ain't bitin', a day on the lake beats a day at work any time!

That's it for today's report. Remember, this is just a quick look at how the current conditions are affecting the fishing. Be sure to check back on Monday for my full weekly fishing report, where I'll give you the inside scoop on the hottest spots and baits.

Tight lines, y'all!
