Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report - March 19, 2025

Howdy, folks! Captain Joe here, back with a quick look at what the fishing's shaping up to be like on Lake Okeechobee today. We've got ourselves a beautiful, clear day ahead with sunny skies and temperatures pushing up near 80 degrees. Should be a perfect day to wet a line!

Lake Okeechobee Water Level Update

Now, the lake level's sitting at 13.03 feet above sea level. That's a good bit lower than this time last year when we were over 15 feet, and even lower than two years ago when we were around 14.94 feet. This lower water level concentrates the fish and can make for some exciting fishing if you know where to look.

How Today's Conditions Affect Lake Okeechobee Fishing

With the clear skies and bright sunshine, the bass are likely to be hanging out in deeper water or seeking shade under the thick vegetation. Look for them around drop-offs, submerged hydrilla beds, and any shady spots you can find. Flipping and pitching creature baits or slow-rolling a spinnerbait along the bottom should entice some bites.

The crappie (speckled perch) fishing should be picking up with the warmer weather. They'll be congregating around brush piles and other structures in deeper water. Small jigs tipped with minnows or brightly colored jigs fished vertically will be the ticket to filling your cooler.

Bluegill and shellcracker will be hanging out in shallower water, especially in the afternoon when the sun warms things up. Look for them near lily pads and other vegetation. A simple cane pole with a cricket or worm will do the trick, or you can use small jigs or spinners for a bit more action.
