Lake Okeechobee Water Level Update for March 17, 2025
Ahoy there, anglers! Captain Joe here, back with your Lake Okeechobee water level update. Now, as of March 16, 2025, that big ol' lake is sittin' at 13.13 feet above sea level. That's a whole lot lower than this time last year when she was pushin' 15.76 feet, and even lower than two years ago when she was at 14.98 feet.  She's a fickle mistress, ain't she?

How This Impacts Your Fishing Trip

Now, you might be thinkin', "What's that mean for my fishin' trip, Captain Joe?" Well, lemme tell ya, it makes a heap of difference!  See, with the water level down, those fish ain't got as much room to roam. They'll be congregatin' in the deeper holes and channels, so you gotta know where to look.  

Bass Fishin'

Bass, now, they'll be hangin' out in the edges of the grass beds and around any cover they can find. You're gonna wanna use those slow-movin' lures that mimic crawdads and shiners.  Think topwater frogs, swim jigs, and maybe even a Carolina rig. 

Crappie Time

Crappie, those tasty fellas, they'll be schoolin' up near submerged brush piles and trees.  Vertical jigging with minnows or small jigs is gonna be your ticket to a fish fry. 

Weather Forecast

Now, let's talk weather. We got some rain comin' in on the 17th, about 62 degrees and breezy.  But don't you worry, it'll clear up by the 18th with sunny skies and a high of 75.  The rest of the week is lookin' pretty good too, with temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Just remember to pack your sunscreen and a hat, 'cause that Florida sun can be brutal! 

Captain Joe's Tips

Here's a few extra nuggets of wisdom from yours truly:

With the lower water levels, be extra careful navigatin' those shallow areas. You don't wanna be callin' for a tow!
Pay attention to the wind.  It can make a big difference on Lake Okeechobee.  If it's too windy, you might wanna stay closer to shore.
Most importantly, have fun out there! Lake Okeechobee is a beautiful place to fish, no matter the water level.
