Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report - March 16, 2025

Well folks, it's another beautiful day here in Okeechobee, Florida. The weatherman says clear skies with a high of 81 degrees Fahrenheit. Perfect weather for fishing! The lake level is currently at 13.16 feet, down slightly from yesterday. Last year at this time, the lake was at 15.77 feet, and two years ago it was at 15.00 feet. So, we're definitely seeing lower water levels this year.

How Will This Impact the Fishing?

With the clear skies and falling water levels, the fish are going to be on the move. Here's how I think it will impact the fishing for different species:

Largemouth Bass

The bass fishing has been a little tougher lately with the lower water levels. The fish are being pushed out of their usual haunts in the shallows and are holding tighter to any remaining cover. Look for bass around hydrilla beds, submerged vegetation, and any other structure you can find. Slow-moving baits like worms and creature baits will be your best bet.

Crappie

The crappie fishing should be good today. With the clear water, you'll be able to see them schooling up around brush piles and other structure. Small jigs and minnows will be the ticket to catching a mess of specks.

Bluegill & Shellcracker

The bluegill and shellcracker fishing should also be good today. Look for them in the shallows around lily pads and other vegetation. Small crickets and worms fished under a bobber will produce plenty of bites.
