Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – January 24, 2025

Well folks, Captain Joe here, back with your daily dose of Lake Okeechobee fishing news. The lake is sittin’ purty at 14.59 feet above sea level this mornin’. That’s a touch lower than last year’s 16.23 feet and the 16.13 feet we saw two years back.

Weather Forecast and How it Impacts the Fishing

We’re lookin’ at some overcast skies today with temperatures around 65 degrees Fahrenheit. A bit of a stiff breeze out there too, blowin’ in from the northwest at about 15 miles per hour.

Now, with this weather, the bass fishin’ might be a tad slow. Those big ol’ females like to hunker down in cooler, cloudy weather. Try usin’ slower-moving baits like jigs or worms around the edges of the grass beds.

The crappie, on the other hand, might just be bitin’ like crazy! They love ’em some overcast skies and a little chop on the water. Look for ’em near any structure you can find – brush piles, docks, you name it. Minnows or small jigs will be your ticket to a mess of specks today.

Don’t Forget…

Remember, this is just a quick look at today’s fishing conditions. Be sure to check back on Monday for my full weekly fishing report, where I’ll dive deeper into the best baits, techniques, and locations for all your favorite Lake Okeechobee fish.

Tight lines, y’all!
