Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report for January 20, 2025
Well folks, Captain Joe here, comin' at ya with the latest from Lake Okeechobee! That big ol' lake is lookin' a bit different these days, let me tell ya.  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reportin' the lake level at 14.60 feet above sea level. Now, that might just sound like a bunch of numbers, but lemme break it down for ya.
Lake Okeechobee Water Level and How it Affects Fishing
That 14.60-foot mark is a tad lower than this time last year when she was sittin' purty at 16.22 feet.  And two years ago, she was at 16.10 feet. So, she's a might bit shallower than she's been. Now, what does that mean for all you anglers out there? Well, it means the fish are gonna be a bit more concentrated, especially in those deeper holes and channels. 
What's the Weather Doin'?
Mother Nature's got a mind of her own, and this week she's bringin' us some light rain and cooler temperatures.  We're talkin' highs in the 50s and 60s (Fahrenheit, of course, 'cause this is Florida!).  That wind's gonna be kickin' up a bit too, so make sure you bring your rain gear and a sturdy hat.  Those fish don't mind a little wind, but you sure don't want to lose your lucky cap!

Alright, let's get down to the nitty-gritty.  With the water bein' a bit lower and the weather coolin' down, here's what Captain Joe recommends:
Bass Fishin'
Those big ol' bass are gonna be hangin' out in the deeper water, lookin' for a bite to eat.  Try usin' slow-sinkin' lures like jigs and creature baits.  And don't forget those live shiners!  They're always a crowd-pleaser.
Crappie Fishin'
Crappie, or specks as we sometimes call 'em, love 'em some cooler weather.  You'll find 'em huddled up near brush piles and other structures.  Jigs and minnows are your go-to baits here.
Bluegill and Shellcracker
These fellas are a bit more finicky this time of year, but you can still find 'em.  Look for 'em in shallower water on sunny days.  Worms and crickets will be your best bet.

Well, there you have it, folks!  The lake's a bit lower, the weather's a bit cooler, but the fishin' is still gonna be fine.
