Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – January 10, 2025

Howdy, folks! Captain Joe here, back with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report. The lake is sittin’ purty at 14.83 feet above sea level today. That’s a tad lower than this time last year (16.04 feet) and the year before (16.32 feet). With clear skies and a light breeze predicted, it’s shaping up to be a fine day to wet a line.

How the Lake Level and Weather Impact Fishing

Now, this lower water level might have some folks worried, but don’t you fret! It concentrates the fish in the remaining deeper water, making ’em a might easier to find. Plus, that clear sky means the bass will be lookin’ up for a tasty treat.

What’s Biting on Lake Okeechobee

Bass: Look for bass to be hangin’ around the edges of the grass lines. A slow-retrieved shiner or swim jig should do the trick.

Crappie (Speckled Perch): With the cooler water, crappie should be schooled up tight. Drop a minnow or jig around those deeper brush piles and hang on!

Bluegill: These feisty fellas are always a good time. Look for ’em in shallower water near vegetation, especially on sunny days. Crickets or small jigs will get their attention.

Catfish: Ol’ Mr. Whiskers ain’t too picky. He’ll be lovin’ this cooler weather. Find a nice muddy bottom, bait up with some stink bait or chicken livers, and get ready for a fight!

Well, that’s the latest from Lake Okeechobee. Remember, these are just a few quick tips. Check back on Monday for my full weekly fishing report, where I’ll dive deeper into what’s biting and where. Until then, tight lines and God bless!
