Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – April 18, 2025

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report for today, April 18, 2025. The lake level is sittin’ at 11.87 feet above sea level, which is a good bit lower than last year’s 14.75 and two years ago at 14.34 feet. This low water is gonna change things up for us anglers.

Weather Impact on Fishing

We’re lookin’ at clear skies today with a light breeze. That sunshine’s gonna warm the shallows up quick, which can be good for early morning action. However, as the day goes on, the fish might move deeper to find cooler water. Keep an eye out for any cloud cover that might offer some shade and concentrate fish.

Bass Fishing

With the lower water level, bass are gonna be concentrated in the remaining vegetation and around any available cover. Flipping and pitching creature baits or Texas-rigged worms in the thicker stuff should produce some bites. Spinnerbaits and crankbaits can also be effective for covering water and finding active fish along the edges of the grass lines.

Crappie Fishing (Speckled Perch)

Crappie fishing can be tricky with low water. They’ll likely be holding tight to any deeper holes or brush piles they can find. Using live minnows or small jigs around these areas is your best bet. Be patient and try different depths until you locate them.

Bluegill and Shellcracker

Bluegill and shellcracker will also be affected by the low water. Look for them in the remaining vegetation or around any submerged structure. Crickets and redworms are always a good choice, or you can try small jigs or beetle spins.

Overall Fishing Forecast

While the low water presents some challenges, there are still plenty of fish to be caught on Lake Okeechobee. Focus your efforts on areas with remaining cover and deeper water. Pay attention to the weather and adjust your techniques accordingly. And most importantly, get out there and enjoy a day on the water!

Tight lines, y’all!
