Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – April 19, 2025
Howdy folks, Captain Joe here with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report for April 19, 2025. Let’s dive into what’s happening on the Big O.
Lake Levels and Weather
The lake level is currently at 11.83 feet NGVD, which is considerably lower than last year’s 14.72 feet and the historical average for this date of 13.92 feet. We’re in a dry spell, and it’s definitely impacting the fishing. The weather forecast for today calls for partly cloudy skies with a high around 88°F (31°C) and winds out of the east at 6-10 mph (9-16 kph).
Fishing Forecast
With the lower water levels, finding fish is becoming more about locating the remaining deeper holes and vegetation. Here’s how it’s affecting the different species:
Largemouth Bass
The bass are concentrating in the remaining deeper areas and around any available cover. Focus your efforts on the outside edges of grass lines and near drop-offs. Flipping and pitching creature baits or slow-rolling swimbaits can be effective. Early morning and late evening will be the prime times to target these bass as they seek cooler water.
Crappie
Crappie fishing can still be good, but you’ll need to find them. Look for deeper spots near submerged structure or brush piles. Minnows and small jigs tipped with minnows are your best bet. Using your electronics to locate these deeper spots is key.
Bluegill
Bluegill are also holding in deeper water. Crickets and redworms fished under a bobber near any remaining vegetation or submerged structure will produce bites. Downsizing your tackle can increase your chances of hooking these panfish.
Overall
Fishing on Lake Okeechobee right now requires a bit more effort due to the lower water levels. But with a little patience and by focusing on the deeper areas, you can still have a successful day on the water. Remember to adjust your techniques to the conditions, and you’ll be reeling them in. Tight lines, y’all!
