Well folks, Captain Joe here, comin' at ya with the latest from Lake Okeechobee!  The lake is sittin' purty at 16.10 feet above sea level.  That's a tad higher than this time last year when she was at 16.21 feet, but a good bit lower than two years ago when we were lookin' at 15.83 feet. 
Lake O Water Levels and What They Mean for Fishin'
Now, you might be thinkin', "Joe, what's all this water level mumbo jumbo mean for my fishin' trip?" Well, lemme tell ya, it makes a bigger difference than a mama gator in a fishin' hole!  See, when the water's up, them bass like to hang out in the shallows, hidin' amongst the vegetation.  That means topwater lures and flippin' creature baits are gonna be your best bet.  But when the water's down, them bass head to deeper water, so you gotta use Carolina rigs and deep-diving crankbaits to tempt 'em.  
Weather Forecast and How it Impacts the Bite
And don't even get me started on the weather!  This week's lookin' like a mixed bag of tricks.  We got clear skies and a high of 81 degrees Fahrenheit today, but then the rain clouds roll in and stick around for a few days.  Now, I ain't scared of a little rain, but it can sure make the fish finicky.  Just remember, when it's overcast, them bass ain't afraid to come out and play, so keep your lines tight!

So, what's the verdict, Joe?  Well, with the water level and weather we got goin' on, I'm predictin' some good bass fishin' this week.  The speckled perch should be bitin' too, especially if you can find 'em near the Kissimmee River.  Just remember to bring your rain gear and a positive attitude, and you'll be reelin' 'em in like a pro!
