Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily Lake Okeechobee fishing report. Been fishin’ these waters for longer than I care to admit, and I’m here to give you the straight scoop.

Lake Okeechobee Level and Conditions

The latest data shows the lake level at 10.96 feet. That’s down a good bit from last year (13.42 feet) and two years ago (14.61 feet). We’re also sitting about 2.40 feet below the historical average for this time of year. It’s hot and humid out there, typical Florida summer weather.

   * On 11 May 1999, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched from
     Instantaneous 2400 value to an average-daily lake average.
     On 14 Mar 2001, due to the isolation of various gages within the standard
     10 stations, the average of the interior 4 station gages was used
     as the Lake Okeechobee Elevation.
     On 05 November 2010,  Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 9 gage
     mix of interior and edge gages to obtain a more reliable representation
     of the lake level.
     On 09 May 2011,  Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 8 gage
     mix of interior and edge gages to obtain a more reliable representation
     of the lake level due to isolation of S135 from low lake levels.
     Today Lake Okechobee elevation is determined from the 4 Int & 4 Edge stations

Weather Impact on Fishing

Looks like we’ve got some typical summer weather headed our way. The forecast calls for rain, about 4.23mm, with winds coming from the northeast at around 12.6 mph, gusting up to 20.3 mph. Temperatures will be in the high 80s (around 87°F) during the day, cooling down to the low 70s (around 71°F) at night.

Fishing Forecast

  • Bass Fishing: With the rain and wind, bass will likely be seeking cover. Focus on areas with heavy vegetation, like hydrilla and reeds. Topwater lures early in the morning or late in the evening could be productive. As the day heats up, switch to flipping jigs or using Texas-rigged worms around submerged structure.
  • Crappie Fishing: Crappie will be holding tight to submerged structure as well. Minnows and jigs fished around bridge pilings, docks, and brush piles are your best bet. The wind might make boat control a little tricky, so be prepared to anchor or use a trolling motor to stay on your spot.
  • Catfish Fishing: Catfishin’ should be decent, especially after the rain. Use stink baits, cut bait, or live bait on the bottom in deeper holes or near channels. The increased flow from the rain might concentrate catfish in certain areas.

Remember to always check the South Florida Water Management District website for any water restrictions before heading out.
