+ Flow Due to lockages is computed utilizing average daily headwater and
tailwater along with total number of lockages for the day to calculate
a volume which is then converted to an average discharge in cfs.
++ Preferred flow is determined from either the spillway discharge or the below flow meter daily

   * On 11 May 1999, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched from
Instantaneous 2400 value to an average-daily lake average.
On 14 Mar 2001, due to the isolation of various gages within the standard
10 stations, the average of the interior 4 station gages was used
     as the Lake Okeechobee Elevation.
On 05 November 2010, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 9 gage
mix of interior and edge gages to obtain a more reliable representation
     of the lake level.
On 09 May 2011, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 8 gage
mix of interior and edge gages to obtain a more reliable representation
of the lake level due to isolation of S135 from low lake levels.
Today Lake Okechobee elevation is determined from the 4 Int & 4 Edge stations

Weather Impact on Fishing Today

Looks like we’ve got some weather movin’ in. The forecast for today, June 28th, calls for rain, about 0.44 inches (11.27mm) worth. The wind’s comin’ out of the south-southeast at around 19 mph (8.44 m/s), with gusts up to 30 mph (13.59 m/s). Temperatures will be around 86°F (30°C) during the day, cooling down to about 70°F (21.31°C) overnight.

Fishing Forecast

Here’s how I reckon this weather will affect your fishing today:

Bass Fishing

The rain and wind could make for some tougher conditions, but don’t let that discourage you. Bass tend to be more active in overcast and rainy conditions. Focus on areas with moving water, like canals and points where the wind is pushing baitfish. Topwater lures early in the morning could be productive, switching to jigs and Texas-rigged worms as the day goes on. Look for areas with submerged vegetation where bass can ambush prey. With the lake level lower than usual, targeting those Kissimmee grass edges will be key for finding those Lake Okeechobee Bass.

Crappie Fishing

Crappie fishing might be a bit slow with the wind. Try fishing deeper structure with minnows or jigs. Look for brush piles and submerged trees. The stained water from the rain could help the crappie feel more secure and bite better. Focus on the calmer areas of the lake, away from the wind. Okeechobee Crappie can be finicky, so be patient and try different depths.

Bluegill Fishing

Bluegill might be your best bet today. They tend to bite well even in windy conditions. Use crickets or worms around lily pads and vegetation. The rain will wash insects into the water, which will get the bluegill fired up. Look for spawning beds in shallow water. Lake Okeechobee Bluegill are always a fun fight, and they make for a great fish fry!

General Tips for Lake Okeechobee Fishing

  • Stay Hydrated: Even with the rain, it’s still hot out there. Bring plenty of water.
  • Check Your Gear: Make sure your lines are fresh and your reels are spooled.
  • Be Safe: Keep an eye on the weather and wear your life jacket.

That’s all for today’s report. Remember to check back on Monday for the full weekly report. Tight lines and happy fishin’!
