Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – June 21, 2025 – Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily dose of what’s happening on Lake Okeechobee. Been fishin’ these waters for longer than I care to admit, and I’ve seen it all. Let’s get right to it.

Lake Okeechobee Water Levels

As of today, June 21, 2025, Lake Okeechobee’s elevation is at 11.02 feet NGVD. That’s down a bit from yesterday’s 11.06 feet. We’re also sitting a good 2.35 feet lower than we were this time last year and 3.26 feet lower than two years ago. Keep an eye on those levels, folks; they make a big difference.

Navigation depth on Route 1 is about 4.96 feet and Route 2 is about 3.16 feet.

Weather Impact on Fishing Today

The forecast for today is calling for rain. The wind is coming from the East (77 degrees) at about 16 mph, with gusts up to 21 mph. The high for today is around 87 degrees Fahrenheit, with a low around 77 degrees.

Fishing Forecast

With the rain and wind, here’s how I see the fishing shaping up today:

Bass Fishing

The rain can stir things up, but it can also trigger some good bass action. Look for bass to be holding tight to cover, especially around Kissimmee grass and lily pads. Topwater baits early in the morning could be productive before the wind picks up too much. As the day goes on, switch to flipping jigs and worms in those heavier cover areas. The lower lake levels concentrate the fish, but also make them a bit more wary, so stealth is key.

Key Baits: Topwater frogs, Jigs, Texas-rigged worms

Crappie Fishing (Speck Fishing)

Crappie fishing might be a bit tougher with the wind, but it’s still doable. Focus on deeper structures like submerged brush piles and bridge pilings. Minnows and jigs are your best bet. The rain might push them a little deeper, so adjust your presentation accordingly.

Key Baits: Live minnows, small jigs

Catfish Fishing

Catfish love a good rain! The increased runoff washes all sorts of tasty treats into the lake, and they’ll be on the prowl. Set up near creek mouths or any areas with good current. Stink baits, cut bait, and nightcrawlers will all work well. With the wind, anchoring securely is a must.

Key Baits: Stink bait, cut bait, nightcrawlers

General Tips for Lake Okeechobee

  • Stay Hydrated: Even with the rain, it’s still hot out there. Drink plenty of water.
  • Check Your Gear: Make sure your rain gear is ready to go.
  • Be Safe: Keep an eye on the weather and be prepared to head back to the ramp if things get too rough.

That’s all for today’s report, folks. Tight lines and be safe out there!
