+ Flow Due to lockages is computed utilizing average daily headwater and
tailwater along with total number of lockages for the day to calculate
a volume which is then converted to an average discharge in cfs.
++ Preferred flow is determined from either the spillway discharge or the below flow meter daily

  * On 11 May 1999, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched from
Instantaneous 2400 value to an average-daily lake average.
On 14 Mar 2001, due to the isolation of various gages within the standard
10 stations, the average of the interior 4 station gages was used
    as the Lake Okeechobee Elevation.
On 05 November 2010, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 9 gage
mix of interior and edge gages to obtain a more reliable representation
    of the lake level.
On 09 May 2011, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 8 gage
mix of interior and edge gages to obtain a more reliable representation
of the lake level due to isolation of S135 from low lake levels.
Today Lake Okechobee elevation is determined from the 4 Int & 4 Edge stations

Weather Forecast for Okeechobee

The forecast for today, June 6th, 2025, is calling for partly cloudy skies. We’re looking at a daytime high around 94°F (34.7°C) and a nighttime low around 82°F (27.8°C). The wind will be coming from the southeast at about 8 mph (3.68 m/s), with gusts up to 13 mph (5.96 m/s).

Fishing Impact on Lake Okeechobee

With the lake level sitting at 11.15 feet, it’s lower than this time last year. The inflows are moderate, and outflows are present. The weather is typical for a Florida summer, hot and humid.

Bass Fishing

The bass fishing should be decent, especially early in the morning and late in the evening. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation and structure. The slightly lower water levels might concentrate the fish in certain areas. Use topwater lures early, switching to soft plastics and crankbaits as the sun gets higher. Look for bass near Kissimmee grass and lily pads.

Crappie Fishing

Crappie fishing will be best in deeper water near structures like bridges and submerged trees. With the warmer water, they’ll be seeking cooler depths. Use minnows or jigs. The outflows could affect their location, so be prepared to move around.

Bluegill Fishing

Bluegill will be active in the shallows, especially around vegetation. Use crickets, worms, or small artificial lures. The hot weather will make them more active in the early morning and late afternoon.

Catfish Fishing

Catfish will be biting well, especially at night. Use live bait, cut bait, or stink bait. Focus on areas with deeper water and structure. The inflows could bring in fresh food sources, attracting catfish.

That’s all for today’s report. Get out there and enjoy the Big O! Remember to practice catch and release to help preserve our fishery for future generations. Tight lines!

– Captain Joe
