Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – May 30, 2025 – Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here with your daily fishing report for Lake Okeechobee. Let’s get right to it – the Big O is still producing, but the conditions are definitely changing things up.

Lake Level & Water Conditions

As of this morning, May 30, 2025, the lake elevation is at 10.96 feet NGVD. That’s down a hair from yesterday (0.01 feet) and significantly lower than last year (13.02 feet) and the year before (13.87 feet). We’re sitting about 2.18 feet below the historical average for this time of year. Keep an eye on those navigation depths, especially if you’re running a bigger boat. Route 1 is around 4.90 feet and Route 2 is about 3.10 feet.

Weather Impact on Fishing

The forecast for today calls for rain, with winds out of the Northwest (300 degrees) at around 15 mph, gusting up to 20 mph. The high is expected to be around 82 degrees Fahrenheit, with a low around 75. This moderate rain and wind will definitely impact fishing.

Bass Fishing

With the rain, look for the bass to be holding tighter to cover. The increased cloud cover will help with topwater action early and late in the day. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation and near any inflows. The lower lake level means more vegetation is exposed, creating excellent ambush points. Use darker colored lures in the stained water from the rain.

Crappie (Speck) Fishing

The crappie bite might slow down a bit with the rain and wind. Try fishing deeper structure with minnows or jigs. Look for them around bridge pilings and submerged trees. The stained water might push them a little deeper as well.

Bluegill & Shellcracker

Bluegill and shellcracker fishing should remain fairly consistent. They’ll be bedding in the shallower areas, especially around Kissimmee grass. Use crickets and worms under a float. The rain might make them a little more active as it washes insects into the water.

Catfish

Catfish will be active with the rain. Fish the bottom with stink baits or cut bait in the deeper canals and channels. The increased runoff will bring more food into the water, attracting the catfish.

Inflows and Outflows

Total Inflows: 275 cfs

Total Outflows: 1257 cfs

That’s all for today’s report. Tight lines and be safe out there!
