Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – May 8, 2025
Howdy folks, Captain Joe here with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report for May 8, 2025. Let’s dive into what’s happening on the Big O.
Current Conditions on Lake Okeechobee
The lake level is currently at 11.09 feet NGVD. That’s down 2.88 feet compared to this time last year and 3.06 feet lower than two years ago. We’re also sitting 2.37 feet below the historical average for this time of year. While the lake is lower than we’d like to see, there’s still plenty of fishable water out there.
Recent Weather and Forecast
We’ve had a bit of rain lately, with 0.01 inches falling in the past three days and 0.02 inches over the past week. The forecast for this evening calls for light rain and 1.28 inches of accumulation. The wind will be out of the east-southeast at around 12 mph, with gusts up to 22 mph. Temperatures will be pleasant, with a high of 85°F and a low of 73°F.
Fishing Impact
With the lower water levels, finding those productive spots is key. The fish are concentrated, so focus on areas with good cover like submerged vegetation, drop-offs, and canal entrances.
Bass Fishing
The bass bite should be decent with the cooler temperatures and overcast skies. Try using topwater frogs or swimbaits early in the morning or late in the evening. During the day, switch to flipping and pitching creature baits or Texas-rigged worms in deeper water.
Crappie Fishing
The crappie are likely to be schooled up around deeper brush piles and submerged structure. Use minnows or small jigs to target them. The wind might make it a bit challenging, so focus on more protected areas.
Bluegill Fishing
Bluegill are always a fun option on Lake Okeechobee. Look for them in shallower areas with vegetation. Crickets, worms, or small beetle spins should do the trick.
That’s the Lake Okeechobee fishing report for today. Stay safe out there, and tight lines!
