Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – April 30, 2025

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report for April 30, 2025. Let’s dive into what’s happening on the Big O.

Lake Level and Conditions

The lake level is currently at 11.32 feet NGVD, which is considerably lower than last year’s 14.22 feet and the 2-year average of 14.32 feet for this date. It’s also well below the historical average for this time of year (13.65 feet). This low water level will definitely concentrate the fish and impact where you’ll find them.

The weather forecast for today calls for clear skies with a high of 81°F (27°C) and a low of 71°F (22°C). The wind will be out of the east at a gentle 15 mph (7 m/s). These conditions are pretty typical for late April on Okeechobee.

Fishing Forecast

With the low water and clear conditions, sight fishing opportunities should be excellent. Here’s a breakdown by species:

Largemouth Bass

The lower water levels will push bass towards the remaining vegetation and deeper holes. Focus your efforts around the edges of the grass lines and near any available cover. Topwater frogs, spinnerbaits, and flipping creature baits should be productive. With the clear water, natural-colored baits will likely be more effective.

Crappie

Crappie will be congregating around deeper brush piles and submerged structure. Use live minnows or small jigs tipped with minnows for the best results. Look for areas where the remaining vegetation meets deeper water.

Bluegill

Bluegill will be holding in similar areas to crappie. Crickets, redworms, and small beetle spins will entice them to bite. Target areas with submerged vegetation or near the edges of lily pads.

Tips for Today’s Fishing

  • Get out early to take advantage of the cooler temperatures and calmer winds.
  • Pay close attention to the water clarity and adjust your bait selection accordingly.
  • Focus your efforts in areas with remaining vegetation or deeper water.
  • Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun.

That’s the Lake Okeechobee fishing report for April 30, 2025. Tight lines and good luck out there!
