Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – April 29, 2025

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, back with your daily Lake Okeechobee fishing update. The lake’s been seein’ some changes lately, and today’s report is all about how those changes are gonna affect your fishin’ trip.

Current Lake Conditions

As of April 28, 2025, Lake Okeechobee’s water level is sittin’ at 11.39 feet NGVD. That’s a good bit lower than last year’s 14.28 feet and the 14.31 feet we saw two years ago this time. It’s also considerably below the historical average for this time of year (13.67 feet). This lower water level is concentratin’ fish in certain areas, which can be good news if you know where to look.

Weather Impact

Yesterday saw some significant rainfall around the lake, with the S77 gauge recordin’ 1.49 inches. Today’s forecast is callin’ for more rain, with a high of 82°F (27.47°C) and a low of 71°F (21.69°C). Winds are expected out of the east at around 12 mph (7.6 m/s), with gusts up to 14 mph (9.01 m/s). This moderate rain and wind could make for some choppy conditions out on the open water, but it’ll also stir up the fish and get ’em bitin’.

Fishing Forecast

So, how’s all this gonna affect the fishin’? Here’s my take:

Largemouth Bass

With the lower water levels, bass are gonna be holdin’ tight to any available cover, like submerged vegetation, lily pads, and drop-offs. Focus your efforts in these areas, using slower presentations like Texas-rigged worms or creature baits. The wind and rain will also help, as it’ll create some murky water, makin’ it harder for the bass to see your line.

Crappie

Crappie are also gonna be concentratin’ in deeper water near structure. Look for them around brush piles, submerged trees, and docks. Minnows and small jigs are your best bet for enticing these tasty panfish.

Bluegill

Bluegill are a bit more adaptable and can be found in shallower water, especially around vegetation. However, with the cooler temperatures and wind, they might be a bit sluggish. Try using small crickets or worms under a bobber, and be patient.

Final Thoughts

Even with the lower water levels and the chance of rain, Lake Okeechobee still offers fantastic fishing opportunities. Just remember to adjust your tactics based on the conditions, and you’re sure to have a successful day on the water. Tight lines, y’all!
