Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report for April 25, 2025

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report for today, April 25, 2025. The lake level is currently sitting at 11.59 feet NGVD, which is a good bit lower than last year’s 14.50 feet and the 2023 level of 14.26 feet on this date. It’s also considerably below the historical average for this time of year (13.76 feet). This lower water level is definitely something to keep in mind as you plan your fishing trip.

Weather Forecast and Fishing Impact

The weather forecast for today calls for scattered clouds with a high of 80°F (27°C) and a low of 69°F (21°C). The wind will be out of the east at around 15 mph (7 m/s), with gusts up to 20 mph (9 m/s). This moderate wind could make for some choppy conditions on the open water, so be prepared. The wind will also impact where the fish are located as they will seek areas protected from the wind.

Fishing Tips for Today

With the lower water levels, finding fish might require a bit more searching. Focus on areas where the remaining water is deeper, such as canals, cuts, and drop-offs. The wind will also push baitfish and therefore sportfish to the western shorelines. Look for areas with vegetation, as this will provide cover for the fish.

Bass Fishing

Bass fishing should still be decent, despite the lower water. Try using topwater lures early in the morning or late in the evening when the light is low. As the sun gets higher, switch to swimbaits, crankbaits, or plastic worms fished around the remaining vegetation or near the bottom in deeper areas. Flipping and pitching creature baits or senkos into thicker cover can also be effective.

Crappie Fishing

Crappie are likely to be holding tight to any remaining submerged structure. Use live minnows or small jigs fished vertically around brush piles, docks, or other cover. You can also try trolling slow-moving crankbaits or spinnerbaits along the edges of the vegetation.

Bluegill and Shellcracker Fishing

Bluegill and shellcracker can still be caught in the shallower areas, especially around beds. Use crickets, redworms, or small beetle spins fished under a bobber. Look for areas with sandy or gravelly bottoms, as these are common spawning areas.

Catfish Fishing

Catfish are less affected by water level fluctuations and can be found throughout the lake. Use live bait such as nightcrawlers, chicken livers, or cut bait fished on the bottom. You can also try using stink baits or prepared catfish baits.

Overall Outlook

While the lower water level presents some challenges, there are still plenty of fishing opportunities on Lake Okeechobee. Remember to adjust your tactics based on the conditions, and be prepared to move around to find the fish. Good luck out there, and tight lines!
