Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – April 15, 2025
Howdy folks, Captain Joe here with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report for April 15, 2025. The lake’s been seein’ some changes lately, and today’s no different. Let’s dive into the numbers and see what’s what.
Current Conditions on Lake Okeechobee
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake level at 12.03 feet NGVD. That’s a good bit lower than last year’s 14.87 feet and two years ago at 14.23 feet on this date. It’s also almost two feet below the historical average for this time of year (14.01 feet). With the lake lower, fish tend to concentrate in the remaining deeper holes and channels, making ’em a bit easier to find if you know where to look.
Weather Forecast and Impact on Fishing
The weather forecast for today calls for clear skies. This bright sunshine can make sight fishing a bit tougher, especially in the shallower areas. Bass might be holdin’ tight to cover, so target areas with shade and structure. Flipping and pitching creature baits or using slower-moving presentations like Texas-rigged worms can be effective.
Fishing Outlook
- Largemouth Bass: With the lower water levels and clear skies, focus your efforts on deeper areas with vegetation or near drop-offs. Slower presentations and darker colored baits will likely be more productive.
- Crappie: Look for crappie around submerged brush piles and other structures in deeper water. Minnows and small jigs are your best bet.
- Bluegill: Bluegill will also be concentrated in deeper areas. Crickets and redworms fished under a bobber are a classic choice.
Remember, these are just general guidelines. Every day on the lake is different, and the fish can always surprise you. So get out there, enjoy the beautiful Florida weather, and see what you can catch!
Tight lines, y’all!
