Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – April 6, 2025

Well folks, it’s another beautiful day here on Lake Okeechobee. The sun’s shining, the birds are chirping, and the fish are biting – or at least they should be, with these conditions! Let’s dive into how this beautiful weather and the current lake level are gonna affect your fishing today.

Lake Okeechobee Water Level

As of this morning, the lake is sitting at 12.42 feet NGVD. That’s a good bit lower than this time last year (15.15 feet) and even lower than two years ago (14.39 feet). Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Captain Joe, is that good or bad for fishing?” Well, it’s all about perspective and knowing where to look.

Clear Skies and Sunshine

The forecast for today is calling for clear skies and sunshine with a high of 82°F (about 28°C for you youngsters). A little breeze out of the southeast at 7 mph (that’s about 3 meters per second, for you metric folks) will keep things comfortable out on the water.

How This Impacts Your Fishing

With the lower water level, the fish are a bit more concentrated. Look for them in the usual spots: drop-offs, channel edges, and around any remaining vegetation. The clear skies mean the bass might be a little spooky, so downsize your line and use natural-looking baits.

For you crappie fishermen, this warm weather should have them moving into shallower water to spawn. Look for them near brush piles, docks, and other structure.

And don’t forget about the bluegill! They love this warm weather and will be up in the shallows looking for a meal. A simple cricket or worm under a bobber will do the trick.

Get Out There and Fish!

So there you have it, folks. The lake is ready and waiting, and the fish are biting. Get out there and enjoy this beautiful day on the water. Remember to be respectful of the lake and all its creatures, and I’ll see you out there!
