oke Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report for March 9th, 2025
Howdy folks! Captain Joe here, back with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report. The Big O is always changin' and today's no different. Let's dive into what's what and how you can bag some beauties.
Lake Conditions
The Army Corps has the lake sitting at 13.46 feet above sea level. That's a good bit lower than this time last year (15.99 feet) and two years ago (15.26 feet). This lower water level concentrates the fish, making them a bit easier to find.
Weather Forecast
We're lookin' at a beautiful stretch of weather here in Okeechobee, Florida. Clear skies and light winds are expected all week. Temperatures will be in the low 80s during the day and dipping down to the high 60s at night. Perfect for gettin' out on the water!
Fishing Forecast
With these conditions, here's what I'm thinkin':
Bass Fishing
The lower water level has the bass holdin' up in the remaining vegetation. Look for them around lily pads, reeds, and hydrilla. Flipping and pitching creature baits or swim jigs should produce some bites. Early mornings and late evenings will be key.
Crappie Fishing
Crappie are bitin' around the deeper brush piles and submerged trees. Use small jigs or minnows and work them slowly through the cover. You can also find them schooled up near the locks and dams.
Bluegill Fishing
Bluegill are always a good time and they're active in the shallows right now. Look for them near beds of eelgrass and bulrush. Crickets, worms, and small jigs will
