Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report - February 21, 2025

Howdy folks! Captain Joe here, back with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report. It's a beautiful day to be on the water, but let's see what the Big O has in store for us anglers today.

Lake Conditions and Weather Forecast

The Army Corps has the lake sitting at 13.85 feet above sea level. That's down a bit from last year's 16.38 and 15.72 the year before. We're definitely seeing the effects of a drier winter. As for the weather, expect partly cloudy skies with a high near 85 degrees. Winds will be out of the northeast at around 8 mph, with gusts up to 14 mph. Not too shabby for a day on the lake!

Fishing Forecast

With the lower water levels, we're seeing a lot of fish concentrated in the usual haunts. The Kissimmee River, Horse Island, and the Monkey Box are all holding good numbers of bass. Look for them around the edges of the grass lines and near any submerged structure. The crappie bite has been picking up as well. Try fishing around the bridges and deeper canals with minnows or jigs. You might also find some specks hanging out near the submerged vegetation.

Tips for Today's Fishing

* **Early bird gets the worm:** Get out on the water early to take advantage of the cooler temperatures and calmer winds. * **Focus on the edges:** With the lower water levels, fish are concentrated around the edges of the grass lines and near any structure. * **Downsize your baits:** The fish might be a bit finicky, so try using smaller baits and lures. Well, that's the latest from Lake Okeechobee. Remember to always practice catch and release whenever possible, and be sure to check back on Monday for my full weekly fishing report. Tight lines, everyone!
