oke Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report February 5th, 2025
Well folks, it's another beautiful day here in sunny Florida. The weatherman is callin' for some overcast skies with a high of 73 degrees Fahrenheit and a gentle southeast wind blowin' around 13 miles per hour. That there's prime fishin' weather if you ask me!
Now, Lake O is sittin' at 14.32 feet above sea level, which is a mite lower than this time last year when she was up around 16.31 feet. But don't let that fool ya, there's still plenty of water out there and the fish are bitin'.
With the water bein' a tad cooler this time of year, the bass are gonna be movin' up shallow lookin' for warmer water. Look for 'em around the edges of the grass beds and near any kind of cover they can find. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and slow-rollin' swimbaits should all be good bets.
The crappie fishin' should also be pickin' up as we get closer to spring. These tasty fellas like to hang out around brush piles and other structure, so keep an eye out for those. Small jigs tipped with minnows or jigs will do the trick.
And for you catfish lovers, well, you're always in luck on Lake Okeechobee! These whiskered wonders are bottom feeders, so look for 'em in the deeper holes and channels. Chicken livers, nightcrawlers, or cut bait will all entice a catfish to bite.
So there ya have it, folks. Get out there and enjoy some of this fine Florida fishin'! And remember, always be respectful of the lake and the creatures that call it home. Tight lines!
