* On 11 May 1999, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched from
Instantaneous 2400 value to an average-daily lake average.
On 14 Mar 2001, due to the isolation of various gages within the standard
10 stations, the average of the interior 4 station gages was used

On 05 November 2010, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 9 gage
mix of interior and edge gages to obtain a more reliable representation
of the lake level.
On 09 May 2011, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 8 gage

Lake Okeechobee Water Level Report for February 2, 2025
Well folks, it’s Captain Joe here, back with your daily Lake Okeechobee fishing report. The lake level is currently at 14.38 feet NGVD, which is a bit lower than we’ve seen it in recent years. In fact, it’s almost two feet lower than it was this time last year and a foot and a half lower than it was two years ago.
How Will This Impact the Fishing on Lake Okeechobee?
With the lower water levels, the fish are going to be a bit more concentrated in certain areas. We’ll likely see the bass move into the edges of the grass lines and up onto shallower flats. The crappie will be schooled up tight in deeper holes and around any structure they can find.
The good news is that the weather forecast for today is calling for some light rain and temperatures in the low 70s. A little bit of rain can actually be a good thing for fishing, as it helps to cool the water and gets the fish biting.
What to Fish For on Lake Okeechobee Today
If you’re heading out on the lake today, I’d recommend targeting bass in the early morning and late evening hours. Look for them in the edges of the grass lines and up onto shallower flats. Topwater frogs, spinnerbaits, and swim jigs should all be productive baits.
As the day heats up, the bass will likely move deeper. You can try fishing for them with Carolina rigs, Texas rigs, or crankbaits. Just be sure to fish slowly and methodically.
If you’re looking for something a little different, you can always try your luck at catching some crappie. As I mentioned earlier, they’ll be schooled up tight in deeper holes and around any structure they can find. Small jigs, minnows, and spinners are all good baits to use for crappie.
