Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report - January 26, 2025

Well folks, it's another beautiful day here on Lake Okeechobee, even if it is a tad overcast. The water's sittin' pretty at 14.54 feet above sea level, which is a good bit lower than this time last year when she was up at 16.26 feet. Two years back, it was about the same at 16.12 feet. That lower water level's gonna bunch those fish up a bit, makin' for some potentially good fishing if you know where to look.

Overcast Skies Could Make for a Good Bite

The forecast for today is callin' for cloudy skies with a high of 68 degrees Fahrenheit. That little bit of cloud cover could make for a good bite, especially for those big ol' bass. They love to ambush their prey when it's shady, so keep an eye out for any movement in the water.

Bass Fishing: Target the Grass Beds

With the water level down, the bass are gonna be holdin' tight to any cover they can find. That means the grass beds are gonna be your best bet. Try throwin' a swim jig, a spinnerbait, or even a topwater frog around the edges of the grass. You might be surprised what you pull out!

Crappie Fishing: Look for Structure

Crappie love to hang out around structure, and that's especially true when the water level is down. Look for brush piles, submerged trees, or even just deep holes near the shore. A small jig tipped with a minnow is always a good bet for crappie.

Spec Fishing: Try the Rim Canal

If you're after specks (that's what we call black crappie down here), the Rim Canal is always a good bet. The water's a little deeper there, and the specks tend to congregate in big schools. You can catch 'em on small jigs, minnows, or even grass shrimp.

Stay Safe and Tight Lines!

Well, that's about it for today's report. Remember to stay safe out there on the water, and always wear your life jacket. And most importantly, have fun and tight lines!
