Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report - January 16, 2025

Howdy, folks! Captain Joe here, back with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report. Today's looking like another beautiful day to be out on the water, but let's dive into how the conditions are shaping up for our favorite fish.

Lake Okeechobee Water Level and Weather

The Army Corps has the lake sitting at 14.65 feet above sea level today. That's a tad lower than this time last year (16.12 feet) and two years ago (16.15 feet). We're also looking at some overcast skies with a comfortable temperature of around (convert 14.44 C to F). The wind's supposed to be pretty calm, blowing (convert 0.804672 m/s to mph) from the (convert 54 degrees to compass direction).

Lake Okeechobee Bass Fishing Report

With the water level down and the skies overcast, those big ol' bass are gonna be hanging out a little deeper today. Look for them around the edges of the grass lines and near any structure you can find. Slow-moving presentations like worms and jigs should work well in this weather.

Lake Okeechobee Crappie Fishing Report

Crappie, on the other hand, love a bit of shade. The overcast skies will have them more active, so you might find them a little shallower than usual. Try fishing around brush piles and submerged trees with minnows or small jigs.

Lake Okeechobee Spec Fishing Report

Speckled perch, or specks as we call 'em, are usually hanging out in deeper water this time of year. Look for them near drop-offs and channels. Live minnows are always a good bet, but you can also try small jigs tipped with minnow parts.

Captain Joe's Final Thoughts

Overall, it's shaping up to be a fine day for fishing on Lake Okeechobee. Remember to adjust your techniques based on the conditions, and you'll be sure to have a successful day on the water. Tight lines, everyone!
