Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – January 12, 2025

Well folks, it’s another beautiful day here on Lake Okeechobee! Captain Joe here, with a quick update on how the fishing’s shaping up today.

Clear Skies and Steady Water Levels

The weatherman’s calling for clear skies and a high of 65 degrees Fahrenheit (18 degrees Celsius) today, with a light breeze out of the northwest. Perfect conditions for getting out on the water! The lake level is currently sitting at 14.78 feet, which is slightly higher than this time last year but a bit lower than two years ago.

What This Means for Your Fishing Trip

With these conditions, I reckon we’ll see some good fishing action all around the lake. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect:

Bass Fishing:

The bass should be biting well in the shallows early in the day. Look for them around the edges of grass beds and near any submerged vegetation. As the sun gets higher, they’ll start moving deeper.

Crappie Fishing:

Crappie, also known as speckled perch, love cooler water, so they’ll be hanging out in deeper water. Try using minnows or jigs around brush piles and submerged trees.

Bluegill and Shellcracker:

These panfish will be active in the warmer, shallower water. Look for them near lily pads and other vegetation. Crickets and worms are always good bait choices.

Get Out There and Enjoy!

So there you have it, folks. Get out there and enjoy this beautiful weather and some fantastic fishing on Lake Okeechobee. Remember to be safe, respect the lake, and as always, tight lines!
