Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report for January 8, 2025 Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report for January 8, 2025
Howdy folks! Captain Joe here with your Lake Okeechobee fishing report for January 8, 2025.
The lake is sitting at 14.93 feet above sea level today. That's a touch lower than this time last year when we were at 16 feet even, and quite a bit lower than two years ago when the Big O was at a healthy 16.32 feet. With the lower water levels, we're seeing a good bit of vegetation growth, which is always good news for the fish.
The weather today is looking pretty nice for fishing. We're expecting partly sunny skies with a high of 80 degrees Fahrenheit (that's about 27 degrees Celsius for you snowbirds). The wind will be blowin' out of the east at a gentle 5-10 miles per hour (that's about 8-16 kilometers per hour for those of you keeping score up north).
Now, let's talk fishin'.
**Bass:** The largemouth bass should be movin' into those shallow spawning areas. Look for them around those grassy edges and near any vegetation you can find.
**Crappie:** With the cooler water temperatures, the crappie should be schooled up tight. Try using minnows or jigs around those deeper brush piles and you might just find yourself a mess of specks.
**Bluegill:** The bluegill are always a good time and they love those shallow, weedy areas. A simple worm or cricket under a bobber is all you need to have some fun with these feisty little fellas.
Well, that's about it for today's report. Remember to be respectful of the lake and all its creatures, and always wear your life jacket. Tight lines, y'all!
