11/04/2024 Weekly Okeechobee Fishing Report
Well, howdy folks! It's your old pal Captain Joe, and it's time for another Okeechobee Fishing Report.
Let’s start with the good news. The water levels are lookin’ pretty good this week, sittin’ at 16.10 feet above sea level. That’s a smidge higher than last year at this time, but a little lower than two years ago. Looks like we’re still in that “sweet spot” for some good fishing.
Now, let’s talk weather. Looks like we’re gonna see some light rain throughout the week, and the winds will be generally mild, mostly southerly with speeds around 5 to 9 mph, which should help keep the lake from gettin’ too stirred up.
Now, for the real reason you’re here: What’s biting?!
**Bass:** With the water a little high, those bass should be makin’ their way to the shallower areas, especially around reeds and cattails. Toss some topwater plugs or spinnerbaits for some action. If you’re lookin' for a slow bite, try a Texas-rigged worm or a jig.
**Bluegill and Crappie:** These fellas like the cover too, so try your luck in those lily pads and reeds. Fishin’ with crickets or worms will usually do the trick.
**Speckled Perch:** Those specks are typically scattered throughout the lake, but I’ve had some good luck around the edges of those grass beds. Use a jig or some live minnows to catch them.
**Catfish:** Now, these fellas are always hungry, and you can usually find them around those deeper channels and drop-offs. Fish with cut bait or worms to catch the big fellas.
Remember, this is just a general guide, so keep an eye out for changing conditions. Enjoy your time out on the water, and remember to stay safe and share your catches with me!
Tight lines,
Captain Joe
