Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – September 4, 2025 – Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here with your daily Lake Okeechobee fishing report. Let’s get right to it – the lake’s still breathin’ and we’re still fishin’!

Lake Okeechobee Water Levels

As of this morning, September 4th, 2025, Lake Okeechobee’s official elevation is 12.60 feet NGVD. That’s down a bit from yesterday’s 12.55 feet. We’re still below the historical average for this time of year, sitting about 1.70 feet below the period of record average. Compared to last year, we’re down 1.79 feet, and a whopping 2.78 feet below where we were two years ago. Keep an eye on those levels, folks, as they can change quickly with these summer rains.

Weather Impact on Fishing Today

The weather forecast for today, September 5th, calls for rain. The wind is coming from the east-northeast at about 8 mph, with gusts up to 14 mph. The temperature will be around 85°F during the day, dropping to about 78°F overnight.

Here’s how this weather might affect your fishing:

Bass Fishing

With the rain and wind, look for bass to be holding tighter to cover. The increased cloud cover can make for some good topwater action early and late in the day. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation and structure. The inflow from the S65E is still high at 3424 cfs, so the Kissimmee River area could be productive.

Crappie Fishing

Crappie might be a bit more scattered with the weather. Try fishing deeper structure near the Kissimmee River or around the Harney Pond area. Minnows and jigs are always a good bet.

Bluegill Fishing

Bluegill should still be active in the canals and near shoreline vegetation. The rain might stir up some insects, making for good surface feeding opportunities. Crickets and worms are your best bet.

Inflows and Outflows

Total inflows to the lake are currently at 4346 cfs, with the S65E contributing the most. Total outflows are at 326 cfs. The Lake Okeechobee Net Inflow (LONIN) is averaging 5446 over the last 14 days.

Captain Joe’s Tip of the Day

Don’t let a little rain scare you off the lake! Sometimes the best fishing happens when the weather isn’t perfect. Just be sure to stay safe and keep an eye on the sky.

That’s all for today’s report. Tight lines and happy fishing!
