Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – September 1, 2025

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here with your daily fishing report for Lake Okeechobee. September is here, and while the days are still warm, we’re starting to feel that little hint of fall in the air. Let’s see what the Big O is serving up today.

Lake Level and Water Conditions

According to the latest U.S. Army Corps of Engineers data, the lake elevation is at 12.52 feet NGVD. That’s down a bit from yesterday (12.53 feet) and significantly lower than last year (14.28 feet) and two years ago (15.36 feet) at this time. We’re also sitting 1.70 feet below the period of record average. Keep an eye on those navigation depths, especially if you’re running a bigger boat. Route 1 is at 6.46 feet and Route 2 is at 4.66 feet.

Weather Impact on Fishing

The weather forecast for today, September 2nd, calls for rain. We’re looking at about 5.05mm of rain (that’s roughly 0.2 inches), with winds coming from the northwest at around 9.7 mph, gusting up to 19 mph. The high for today is expected to be around 86 degrees Fahrenheit, with a low around 76 degrees.

Fishing Forecast

With the lake level being lower than usual and rain in the forecast, here’s how I see it impacting the fishing:

Bass Fishing

The lower water levels mean the bass are more concentrated in the deeper areas and around any remaining vegetation. The rain might stir things up a bit and bring some of the bigger girls out to feed. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation and use your favorite topwater lures early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Flipping and pitching around heavy cover could also produce some good bites. With the wind picking up, consider using a Carolina rig to cover more ground.

Crappie Fishing (Speck Fishing)

Crappie will likely be holding around deeper structure and any available cover. Minnows and jigs are always a good bet. With the rain, they might move a bit shallower, so don’t be afraid to try different depths. Look for them near the Kissimmee River and in the canals.

Bluegill Fishing

Bluegill fishing should be decent, especially around the full moon. Look for them in the shallows near vegetation. Crickets and worms are your best bet. The rain might make them a bit more active, so get out there and give it a shot!

Inflows and Outflows

Total inflows into the lake are at 3799 cfs, with the S65E contributing the most at 2638 cfs. Total outflows are at 258 cfs. Keep an eye on these numbers, as they can affect water clarity and fishing conditions.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the fishing should be fair to good, depending on your target species and how you adapt to the conditions. Remember to stay safe out there, watch the weather, and tight lines!

Until next time,
Captain Joe
