Weather Impact on Fishing Today

Looks like we’re in for some wet weather today. The forecast calls for rain, about 4.25 inches worth. The wind’s blowing from the west-southwest (249 degrees) at around 7.6 mph, with gusts up to 14.6 mph. The high for the day is around 91°F (32.88°C), dropping to a low of about 75°F (24.05°C) overnight. This moderate rain will definitely impact the fishing, so let’s talk about how.

Bass Fishing

With the rain coming down, bass will likely be holding tighter to cover. Think submerged vegetation, lily pads, and any structure you can find. The lower light conditions can actually improve the bite, so don’t be afraid to throw darker-colored lures like black and blue jigs or worms. The increased inflow from the rain might also push some bass towards the Kissimmee River or the canals.

Crappie Fishing

Crappie tend to move a bit deeper when it rains. Try fishing around submerged brush piles or bridge pilings in the canals. Minnows and small jigs are always a good bet. The stained water from the rain might make it a little tougher, so use brighter colored jigs to help them see it. Be patient and persistent, and you might just fill your cooler.

Bluegill Fishing

Bluegill fishing can be decent even in the rain. They’ll often be tucked under lily pads or near the shoreline. Crickets and worms are your best bet. Just find a spot out of the wind and rain, and you should be able to catch a few. The rain will wash insects into the lake, so they’ll be feeding well.

Captain Joe’s Final Thoughts

Overall, the fishing might be a bit challenging with the rain, but don’t let that discourage you. Adapt your techniques, target the right areas, and you can still have a successful day on the Big O. Remember to stay safe out there, watch the weather, and tight lines!

Until next time, y’all!

– Captain Joe
