Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – August 26, 2025 – With Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily dose of what’s happening on our beloved Lake Okeechobee. Been fishin’ and huntin’ these parts for nigh on 60 years, and I’ve seen it all. Let’s get right to it, keepin’ it simple and focused on how it affects your fishin’ today.

Lake Okeechobee Water Levels & Inflows/Outflows

The latest data from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers shows the lake level at 12.32 feet NGVD. That’s down from 14.15 feet last year and 15.33 feet two years ago. The average for this time of year is 14.14 feet, so we’re sitting about 1.82 feet below average.

Total Inflows: 4442 cfs
Total Outflows: 187 cfs

Looks like we’re still getting a good bit of water coming in, mainly from the S65E (2554 cfs) and S84 (989 cfs). Outflows are minimal, so the lake level should stabilize, maybe even creep up a bit if we get some rain.

Weather Impact on Fishing Today

The forecast for today, August 27th, calls for rain. We’re lookin’ at about 2.66mm of rain (that’s roughly 0.1 inches). The wind is comin’ from the North-Northeast at about 4.37 meters/second (around 9.8 mph) with gusts up to 6.89 meters/second (about 15.4 mph). Temperatures will be around 28.19°C (82.7°F).

Bass Fishing

With the rain and wind, bass fishing might be a bit tougher today. Look for bass to be holding tight to cover, especially around Kissimmee grass and lily pads. Topwater baits early in the morning could produce, but switch to jigs and worms as the day goes on and the rain picks up. The slightly cooler water from the rain might encourage some activity.

Crappie Fishing

Crappie will likely be holding deeper with the weather conditions. Try fishing around submerged structure and bridge pilings with minnows or jigs. The wind could make boat control a challenge, so find a sheltered spot if possible.

Bluegill Fishing

Bluegill might be a good option today, especially if you can find a calm area. They tend to stay active even with a little rain. Use crickets or worms around the edges of vegetation.

Key Takeaways for Today’s Fishing Trip

  • Lake Level: 12.32 feet NGVD – Lower than average.
  • Weather: Rain and wind will impact fish behavior.
  • Bass: Fish tight to cover with jigs and worms.
  • Crappie: Target deeper structure with minnows and jigs.
  • Bluegill: Fish the edges of vegetation with crickets or worms.

That’s the skinny for today, folks. Remember to stay safe out there, watch the weather, and tight lines!

Tight lines and safe fishin’,

Captain Joe
