Weather Impact on Fishing

The weather forecast for today is calling for rain. The wind is coming from the southeast at around 18.5 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph. The temperature is expected to be around 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

With the rain and wind, here’s how it might affect your fishing:

Bass Fishing

The lower water levels might concentrate the bass in certain areas, especially around submerged vegetation and structure. The rain could stir up the water, making reaction baits like spinnerbaits and crankbaits effective. Focus on areas with moving water, like canals and cuts.

Crappie Fishing

Crappie tend to seek shelter during windy conditions. Look for them around deeper structures like bridge pilings and submerged trees. Minnows and jigs are your best bet in these conditions.

Other Species

Bluegill and catfish might be more active with the rain bringing in fresh nutrients. Use live bait like worms and crickets for bluegill, and stinkbaits or cut bait for catfish.

General Tips for Today

  • Pay attention to the wind: It can make boat control challenging, so choose your spots wisely.
  • Use appropriate gear: With the wind, heavier line and weights might be necessary.
  • Stay safe: Keep an eye on the weather and be prepared for changing conditions.

That’s all for today’s report. Get out there and enjoy the Big O, and remember to practice catch and release to help preserve our fishery!

Tight lines,
Captain Joe
