Unfortunately, the lake elevation data is currently unavailable. However, we can see that last year at this time, the lake was at 13.75 feet, and two years ago, it was at 15.29 feet. We’ll update this as soon as the current data becomes available. Keep an eye on these levels, as they greatly impact where the fish are holding.

Weather Forecast and Fishing Impact

The weather forecast for today, August 6th, calls for rain. Specifically, we’re looking at moderate rain with about 3.54mm of rain expected. The wind will be coming from the East-Southeast at around 4.83 meters/second (about 10.8 mph), with gusts up to 6.67 meters/second (around 14.9 mph). The temperature will be around 30.94°C (87.7°F) during the day, cooling down to 26.13°C (79°F) at night.

How This Affects Fishing:

  • Bass Fishing: With the rain and wind, look for bass to be holding tighter to cover. The increased cloud cover can make them more active, but the wind might make it harder to present your bait effectively. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation and structure. Topwater lures early in the morning could be productive if the wind isn’t too strong.
  • Crappie Fishing: Crappie tend to move deeper when it rains. Try fishing around submerged brush piles and bridge pilings in slightly deeper water. Minnows and jigs are your best bet.
  • Catfish Fishing: Catfish love a good rain! The increased runoff washes more scent into the water, making it easier for them to find your bait. Fish the flats near the Kissimmee River or around any major creek mouths. Use stink baits, cut bait, or live bait.

General Fishing Tips for Lake Okeechobee

No matter what you’re fishing for, remember these general tips:

  • Use Quality Line: The Big O has plenty of heavy cover, so you need a strong line to pull those fish out.
  • Match the Hatch: Pay attention to what the fish are feeding on and try to match your lure or bait accordingly.
  • Be Patient: Fishing isn’t always easy, but with persistence, you’ll eventually find the fish.

That’s all for today’s report. Tight lines and happy fishing!
