Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – August 2nd, 2025 – With Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily dose of what’s happening on Lake Okeechobee. Been fishin’ these waters for longer than I care to admit, and I’ve seen it all. Let’s get right to it.

Lake Level and Water Conditions

The latest data shows the lake level is hovering around -NR- feet. Last year at this time, we were at 13.57 feet, and two years ago, 15.23 feet. The average for this time of year (1965-2007) is 13.79 feet. We’re below average, folks. Keep an eye on those shallow spots.

Inflows are at -NR- cfs, with Fisheating Creek contributing 627 cfs. Outflows are at 427 cfs, mainly through S77 (385 cfs) and L8 Canal Pt (43 cfs).

Weather Impact on Fishing

Looks like we’ve got some weather coming our way. The forecast for today, August 3rd, predicts rain of about 2.29mm. Winds are blowing from the south-southeast at around 3.94 m/s (that’s about 9 mph), with gusts up to 6.08 m/s (around 13.6 mph). The high for today will be around 32.41°C (90°F), with a low of 25.54°C (78°F).

Now, how’s this gonna affect your fishing? Well…

Bass Fishing

With the rain coming in, look for the bass to be active around structure and vegetation. The slightly cooler temperatures might encourage them to move into shallower waters. Topwater baits early in the morning could be productive. Focus on areas with lily pads, Kissimmee grass, and hydrilla. The wind could make boat control a little tricky, so be prepared to adjust your approach.

Crappie Fishing

The crappie might be a bit more scattered with the weather change. Try fishing around submerged structure and deeper channels. Minnows and jigs are always a good bet. With the wind picking up, drifting might be a good option, but keep an eye on your line and be ready to set the hook.

Other Species

Don’t forget about those bluegill and shellcracker! They’ll be hanging around the edges of the vegetation, especially after the rain. Crickets and worms are your best friends for these fellas.

Captain Joe’s Tip of the Day

Remember to always check your line and hooks before heading out. A little preparation can save you a lot of frustration on the water. And don’t forget your sunscreen and a hat – that Florida sun can be brutal, even on a cloudy day!

That’s all for today, folks. Tight lines and happy fishin’!
