Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – July 27, 2025

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily dose of what’s happening on Lake Okeechobee. Been fishin’ and huntin’ these parts for longer than I care to admit, and I’m here to share what I’m seeing.

Lake Level and Water Conditions

The lake level is sitting at 12.03 feet NGVD today. That’s about 1.5 feet lower than this time last year (13.53 feet) and almost 3 feet lower than two years ago (14.99 feet). We’re also sitting about 1.69 feet below the period of record average. Keep an eye on those levels, folks, as they definitely impact where the fish are holdin’ up.

Weather Impact on Fishing Today

Looks like we’re in for another typical Florida summer day. The forecast calls for broken clouds, a high around 91°F (32.86°C) and a low around 77°F (25.34°C). The wind will be blowin’ from the east-southeast at about 12 mph (5.44 m/s), with gusts up to 14 mph (6.17 m/s).

Fishing Forecast

With the lake levels where they are and the weather we’re expecting, here’s how I see the fishing shaping up today:

Bass Fishing

The lower water levels are concentrating the bass in the deeper grass and around any available structure. With the broken clouds, look for them to be a bit more active throughout the day. Topwater baits early and late could produce some explosive strikes. During the day, flip jigs and worms around the thickest cover you can find. Focus on areas near the Kissimmee River and the South Bay area.

  • Key Baits: Topwater lures (frogs, buzzbaits), Jigs, Texas-rigged worms
  • Key Areas: Kissimmee River, South Bay, Harney Pond

Crappie (Speck) Fishing

The specks will be holding tight to structure in the deeper water. With the wind, drifting jigs and minnows near submerged brush piles and bridge pilings could be productive. Early morning and late evening will be your best bet.

  • Key Baits: Jigs, Minnows
  • Key Areas: Bridges, Submerged brush piles, deeper canals

Bluegill and Shellcracker

These panfish will be bedding in the shallows. Look for them around lily pads and Kissimmee grass. Crickets and worms under a bobber are always a good bet. The broken cloud cover should make for comfortable fishing conditions.

  • Key Baits: Crickets, Worms
  • Key Areas: Lily pads, Kissimmee grass, shallow canals

Inflows and Outflows

Total Inflows: 4226 cfs
Total Outflows: -103 cfs

The lake is currently losing water. Keep an eye on these numbers as they can change quickly, especially during the rainy season.

That’s all for today’s report. Remember to practice catch and release, respect the lake, and leave no trace. Tight lines and happy fishin’!

– Captain Joe
