Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report: July 15, 2025 – Captain Joe

Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – July 15, 2025 – Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily dose of what’s happening on and around our beloved Lake Okeechobee. Been fishin’ these waters for longer than I care to admit, and I’m here to give you the straight scoop.

Lake Level and Weather Impact

The lake level is currently sitting at 11.76 feet. That’s down a bit from last year (13.55 feet) and two years ago (14.88 feet). We’re also about 1.83 feet below the historical average for this time of year. The lake level dropped about .09 feet from yesterday. The inflows are at 4816 cfs and outflows are at -728 cfs.

Looks like we’ve got a chance of rain today. The forecast calls for light rain with about a 98% chance of precipitation. Winds will be coming from the Southeast at around 12 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph. The high for today will be around 89 degrees Fahrenheit, with a low around 76.

Fishing Forecast

With the lake level a bit lower than usual and the chance of rain today, here’s how I see it affecting your fishing:

Bass Fishing

The lower water levels might concentrate the bass in certain areas, especially around submerged vegetation and deeper channels. Look for them near Kissimmee grass, lily pads, and any structure that provides cover. The rain could stir things up a bit, potentially leading to a good bite as the bass become more active. Topwater lures early in the morning or late in the evening could be productive. Consider using darker colored soft plastics if the water becomes stained from the rain.

Crappie Fishing

Crappie will likely be holding around deeper structures and brush piles. With the wind picking up, drifting with jigs or minnows could be a good tactic. Focus on areas near the edges of the lake and around any submerged timber. The rain might make them a bit more finicky, so experiment with different bait presentations.

Bluegill Fishing

Bluegill should still be plentiful around the edges of the reeds and grass. Use crickets or worms under a bobber. The rain might push them closer to cover, so target those areas. Early morning and late afternoon will be your best bet for a good bite.

General Tips for Today

  • Stay Hydrated: It’s hot out there, so drink plenty of water.
  • Sun Protection: Don’t forget your sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses.
  • Check Your Gear: Make sure your lines are fresh and your hooks are sharp.
  • Be Safe: Keep an eye on the weather and be mindful of the wind.

That’s all for today’s report. Tight lines and happy fishing!
