Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – July 11, 2025 – Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily Lake Okeechobee fishing report. Been fishin’ these waters for longer than I care to admit, and I’m here to tell you what’s bitin’ and what ain’t.

Lake Level and Weather Conditions

The lake level is sitting at 11.49 feet NGVD today. That’s down from last year’s 13.47 feet and a good bit below the historical average for this time of year (13.56 feet). We’re about 2 feet below where we were last year.

We’ve had a good bit of rain, with 6.28 inches in the last day at S77. The forecast calls for more rain today, about 0.92mm, with winds out of the south (180 degrees) at around 3.22 metres/second, gusting to 6.07 metres/second. That’s about 7 mph with gusts to 13 mph. The high today will be around 89 degrees Fahrenheit (31.41C), with a low around 75 degrees Fahrenheit (24.13C).

Fishing Outlook

With the lake level being lower than usual, the fish are a bit more concentrated in the deeper areas and around any remaining vegetation. The recent rains have muddied up some areas, but the fish are still feeding.

Bass Fishing

The bass fishing has been fair. With the lake level down, target the Kissimmee grass edges and any submerged structure you can find. Topwater baits early in the morning and late in the evening are producing some strikes. As the day heats up, switch to flipping jigs and worms around the thickest cover. The recent rains might make the bite a little tougher, so be prepared to adjust your presentation.

Crappie (Speck) Fishing

Crappie fishing is picking up as we move into the summer months. Look for them around submerged brush piles and deeper channels. Minnows and small jigs are your best bet. The stained water from the rain might push them a little deeper, so don’t be afraid to fish a bit slower.

Other Species

Bluegill and shellcracker are still biting well around the lily pads and grass lines. Crickets and worms are the go-to baits. Catfish are always a good option, especially after a rain. Use stink bait or cut bait near the bottom.

Tips for the Day

  • Stay Hydrated: It’s hot out there, folks. Bring plenty of water.
  • Sun Protection: Don’t forget your hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
  • Check Your Gear: Make sure your lines are fresh and your hooks are sharp.
  • Be Patient: Fishing ain’t always easy, but it’s always worth it.

That’s all for today’s report. Tight lines and good fishin’!
