Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – July 9, 2025 – Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily Lake Okeechobee fishing report. Been fishin’ these waters for longer than I care to admit, and I’m here to tell you what’s bitin’ and what ain’t.

Lake Okeechobee Water Levels and Conditions

The latest data shows the lake level at 11.49 feet NGVD. That’s about 2 feet lower than last year and over 3 feet lower than two years ago. We’re also sitting a little over 2 feet below the period of record average. Keep in mind that the navigation depth on Route 1 is about 5.43 feet and Route 2 is about 3.63 feet.

Here’s a quick look at the inflows and outflows:

  • Total Inflows: 1986 cfs
  • Total Outflows: 142 cfs

The lake level has dropped a bit over the last week, but it’s still holding steady. The water clarity is decent in most areas, but expect some stained water closer to the Kissimmee River inflow.

Weather Forecast and Fishing Impact

The forecast for today, July 10th, calls for scattered clouds with a breeze coming from the southeast at around 12 mph, gusting up to 20 mph. The high for today is around 90 degrees Fahrenheit, with a low around 80 degrees.

Here’s how this weather might impact your fishing:

  • Bass Fishing: With the scattered clouds, look for bass to be holding around structure in slightly deeper water. Topwater action might be good early and late in the day. Try flipping jigs and worms around lily pads and hydrilla.
  • Crappie Fishing: Crappie will likely be holding in deeper water near brush piles and submerged trees. Minnows and jigs are your best bet. The wind might make it a little tougher to hold your position, so consider using a trolling motor or anchor.
  • Catfish Fishing: Catfishin’ should be good, especially with the warmer water. Use live bait, cut bait, or stink bait near the bottom. Look for areas with current or structure.

Captain Joe’s Fishing Tips for Today

Given the current conditions, here are a few tips to help you land some fish today:

  • Early Bird Gets the Worm: Get out on the lake early to take advantage of the cooler temperatures and calmer winds.
  • Structure is Key: Focus your efforts on areas with submerged vegetation, docks, and other structure.
  • Adjust Your Presentation: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different baits and techniques until you find what the fish are biting on.

That’s all for today’s report. Remember to stay safe out there, wear your life jacket, and tight lines!

Tight lines and happy fishing!

– Captain Joe
