Lake Okeechobee Fishing Report – July 4th, 2025 – With Captain Joe

Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily Lake Okeechobee fishing report for July 4th, 2025. Hope everyone’s having a great Independence Day! Let’s get right to it.

Lake Okeechobee Water Levels and Conditions

The latest U.S. Army Corps of Engineers data shows the lake level at 11.36 feet NGVD. That’s down a bit from yesterday (11.32 feet) and significantly lower than last year (13.51 feet) and two years ago (14.69 feet) on this same day. We’re about 2.11 feet below the period of record average for this time of year. Keep an eye on those levels, fellas, it impacts where the fish are holding.

Inflows are at 3185 cfs and outflows are at -738 cfs. Pan evaporation is estimated at 0.21 inches today.

Weather Impact on Fishing Today

The weather forecast for this evening predicts scattered clouds with winds coming from the south-southeast at around 12 mph, gusting up to 21 mph. Temperatures will be around 84 degrees Fahrenheit tonight.

Given it’s summer, the water temperatures are warm, and the scattered clouds might provide some relief from the sun during parts of the day. The wind could make some areas a little choppy, so plan your trip accordingly.

Fishing Forecast

Bass Fishing

With the lake level being lower than average, focus on areas with submerged vegetation and near any remaining Kissimmee grass. The scattered clouds might encourage some topwater action early and late in the day. With the wind, try using heavier lures to get through the chop. Look for bass to be holding in slightly deeper pockets near the edges of the grass lines. Live shiners are always a good bet, but don’t be afraid to throw a dark-colored worm or a crankbait.

Crappie (Speck) Fishing

Crappie fishing might be a bit tougher in the open water with the wind. Try targeting deeper structures like brush piles or submerged trees, if you know of any. Minnows and small jigs are your best bet. Early morning and late evening will be your best times.

Bluegill and Shellcracker

Bluegill and shellcracker should still be active around the lily pads and near the shoreline. Crickets and worms are the go-to baits. The wind might make it a little harder to present your bait precisely, but these fish are usually pretty forgiving. Look for areas with less wind if possible.

Catfish

Catfishing should be decent, especially after dark. Use stink baits, cut bait, or live bait near the bottom. The wind shouldn’t affect catfishing too much, as they tend to hang out in deeper water.
