Howdy folks, Captain Joe here, bringing you your daily dose of what’s happening on Lake Okeechobee. Been fishin’ these waters for longer than I care to admit, and I’m here to give you the straight scoop.

Lake Okeechobee Water Level & Conditions

As of this morning, June 24, 2025, Lake Okeechobee’s water level is sitting at 10.99 feet NGVD. That’s a good bit lower than last year (13.39 feet) and two years ago (14.37 feet) this time. We’re also sitting below the Period of Record Average of 13.26 feet by 2.27 feet. The lake level has decreased slightly over the past week.

Here’s a quick look at the inflow and outflow situation:

  • Total Inflows: 274 cfs
  • Total Outflows: 856 cfs

Weather Impact on Fishing Today

The weather forecast for today is calling for a chance of rain, about 0.64mm, with winds coming from the East-Northeast (around 78 degrees) at about 15 mph, with gusts up to 16.5 mph. The high for today is around 90 degrees Fahrenheit, with a low around 75. The light rain and wind will likely impact fishing conditions.

How This Impacts Your Fishing Trip

Bass Fishing

With the lake level being lower than usual, bass are likely to be concentrated in areas with remaining vegetation and deeper pockets. The wind could make it a bit tougher to present your bait effectively, so consider using heavier weights or lures. Look for bass around Kissimmee grass, hydrilla, and any submerged structure you can find. Topwater action might be good early in the morning before the wind picks up too much. With the rain, look for bass to be active around points and cuts where the water is running in.

Key Strategies: Focus on areas with vegetation, use heavier lures in windy conditions, and target early morning topwater action.

Crappie Fishing (Speckled Perch)

Crappie fishing can be a bit more challenging with the wind. Look for them suspended around deeper structure or near bridge pilings. Minnows and small jigs are your best bet. The rain may push them a bit deeper, so adjust your presentation accordingly.

Catfish Fishing

   * On 11 May 1999, Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched from
     Instantaneous 2400 value to an average-daily lake average.
     On 14 Mar 2001, due to the isolation of various gages within the standard
     10 stations, the average of the interior 4 station gages was used
     as the Lake Okeechobee Elevation.
     On 05 November 2010,  Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 9 gage
     mix of interior and edge gages to obtain a more reliable representation
     of the lake level.
     On 09 May 2011,  Lake Okeechobee Elevation was switched to a 8 gage
     mix of interior and edge gages to obtain a more reliable representation
     of the lake level due to isolation of S135 from low lake levels.
     Today Lake Okechobee elevation is determined from the 4 Int & 4 Edge stations
